Zara International Sale!

This post is extremely over due as the Zara extravaganza sale has been going on for some time now. If you have haven't had the opportunity to visit Zara you should do so ASAP. This Spain based High-style/ reasonable cost shop RARELY has sales and when they finally do, it isn't something to miss. Many of the items are on average 30 -70% off original prices!

I went yesterday; it was PACKED and I felt like I was in there for hours! Just when I was about to head to the checkout line with my findings (pair of shoes and a shirt for 9 bucks), I saw this cute dress hanging randomly on some pants and other clothes. ANNDD it was only 20bucks! As I eagerly grabbed the dress, a few of the other random items fell on the floor so I picked them up. So this randomly lady thanks me for picking them up as she was trying a her coat. It wasn't until then that I realized, I snatched the lady's dress she placed to the side to try on her coat! I frantically ran to the check out line hoping she wouldn't notice. Ahhheeee, I couldn't let the dress go. Its mean i know.

The Devious Dress....brooohhahaa

Style Resolution: Comfortable Corporate Swag

Happy 2008! Everyone…I hope that you all have decided to start fresh and new in some way, shape or form.

I for one have decided to up my work dress game a little bit.

I dream of the “Devil wears Prada” styled work attire on a daily basis…ahhh

Not that I’m not up to par already but I could definitely use some improvement. With me working in the city there are too many hot and popping after work event’s for me not to be prepared. I’m sure many of you like me, like to be completely comfortable while at work. That’s exactly my thought process when I wake up most mornings. I normally nix the idea of wearing any heels cause by lunch time the soles of my feet are usually in pain so I wear flats or very low heels. And because I savor every last millisecond of sleep possible I can get in the morning, it leaves me with no time to actually “think” an outfit together. No more!

And doesn’t it seem like the day you decide to wear the “I don’t give a damn today” outfit, you run into Er’body and there mama? As they probably think you ran into hard times or something, lol. But I digress.

So, I will no longer refuse a last minute fly “freakum dress” after work event because I decided to wear flats, a thick linty sweater and slacks on that day. From now on I will be prepared.

Here are some looks I both plan on storing in my desk drawer for an emergency after-work occasion and incorporating into the work wardrobe.

New Year's Resolution # 1 - Go Green

The weather’s beginning to make me feel real guilty for my unfriendly environmental actions. Unconscious reprimands have seemingly come from every direction from Al Gore to the intern at my office, Gio: “Go Green” “Green Go”…those words taunt me every time I toss my plastic Poland spring water bottle in the garbage. Yes, I’m guilty as charged. But beginning 2008, I’m turning a new leaf; I’m taking my first step into going green.

We all know those damn plentiful non bio degradable plastic bags do no good. And saving them to use as garbage bags or as emergency shower caps (lol) only helps a little bit, so my 08’ promise is to decrease my use. In it's place will be a canvas eco-friendly tote bag.

Arguably the most “popular” eco-friendly bag….

The official Anya Hindmarch, ”I’m not a plastic bag.” Created to shun the plastic bag and make it non-fashionable. This $58.00 ($10.00 for the U.K. version) bag has been soooo popular that the U.S. version is currently sold out, you have to signup for the newsletter for information on when you can get your name on a pre-order list AND you can now find numerous knock offs on Ebay. Somethings telling me that this trend is defeating the purpose. Is it that serious people? You see a few celebs wear the bag and now it’s a must have? I mean, it’s not like proceeds go to some charitable cause…seriously.

Another eco-friendly option is to go for a bag with a great cause...

The charitable bag , World Food Programme Feed Bag at $59.95 shop amazon

Your purchase of this bag will support the UN World Food Programme and feed a child for a year. Nice.

And here's some more reasonable priced options for the regular folk, like me ;)

The Mini Tote Bag

Foldable enough so you can toss in your own bag!

And yes, I plan on recycling my Poland Spring bottles too.

Find of the week: The Stunning Ring

Here’s one accessory we all could put to use. Known as The Stunning Ring, this stylish silver tone ring with onyx stone (comes in gold too) ALSO doubles a secret pepper spray device.

I'm on the fence with this, but I would feel a little safer leaving a club late at night with this on my finger.

Worried that if you got it you might accidentally trigger the button and spray an innocent person in the eye? Fear not, you have to use your thumb to operate the safety latch and press the trigger.

Style Review: The Chase Vintage Show

Yesterday, I attended the Chase Vintage Show at the Chelsea Loft in NYC. The shopping event featured a variety of Vintage boutiques from all over the New York Tri -state area.

The venue was perfect and the free drinks were popping! Alot of great boutiques like, Seasoned to Perfection, World of Style Vintage and Hamlet's Vintage Outlet, showcased many of there hot items.

I found two great cocktail rings and a great pair of earrings all at 5 bucks a piece...nice.

The attendance was pretty low, but with featured items like Chanel and Gucci bags, I think it's only a matter of time before word catches on.

Visit Chase Vintage for details on the next vintage shopping event.

Snow boots: UGG

Ugg- Yep, that's the same noise I make when I see em'. For me, Ugg boots are just plain ooogly. The epitome of no style. But I'm not gonna lie, the sure do look comfortable and perfect for winter weather too.

So what's the alternative for a zappy N.Y. fashionista who refuses to commute to work in Ugg's of stiletto's? I need some snow boot options. Here's a few I'd much rather wear than Ugg's:

MICHAEL Michael Kors Fairbanks Lace Up Boot $200.75

The Sporty Boot Nordstrom.com $99.95

The Layered Look

While checking out one of my fave blogs, The Sartorialist, I came across this inspiring look.

I love the layering effect with multiple Cardigan sweaters finished off with a thin waist belt. Minus the shorts and flips flops, the look is perfect for this weather.

Sooo I had to try the look on my own. I found a sweater similar to the above but it was too short and thick that I ended up looking similar to Shrek...

Not a good look . So the moral of the story...

To achieve the layered look right, you must:

  1. Find a long, thin cardigan (other wise tying the belt around using anything with thick material will make you look frumpy.)
  2. Use a thin belt
  3. Use distinct colors
Try some of these neutral colored finds to achieve the look right:

Sample Sale: Fraud Alert!

So I headed out the Sample Sale productions event in LI on Black Friday. As usual, the line for the accessories section was LONNGG to say the least but I sucked it up and headed to the end of the line. After an hour of waiting, I finally entered the room.

At first sight I see Gucci, Prada, Balenciaga, Fendi- ahh just what I need in my life!
But wait a minute-at closer inspection I notice some of the bags are Knock-Offs!!!!

So how’d I know? Well honestly it was my friend that noticed :), She first inspected the look and feel of the leather. Leather seemed rich and soft; definitely real leather so it passed that inspection. A ha, the serial code! The Fendi bag she was inspecting had the authencity hologram as a sticker, this swen on to the REAL fendi bags. Also serial code #’s should match wherever being listed. This one surely didn’t.

That was enough to leave immediately . Damn I was pissed that I headed out side on Black Friday and endured an 1 hour long wait on line, but what about the people who actually purchased bags. Double damn, cause these bags weren't heavily discounted either; with prices ranging between $350.00- $1000.00—Ouch!

Moral of the story, always use caution and smarts when heading to sample sales.

Don’t be a victim of counterfeit bags!
